German Standard from Battle of Germania. This opening scene from ''Gladiator'', is most likely the best Roman battle scene ever filmed in my opinion. No tidy pretty boys here, just seasoned veterans finishing up a long campaign. The strategic use of bowmen, scorpions and catapults to soften up the enemy before an advance went light years ahead of other productions despite other accuracy problems with the film. This German standard is cast from my original prop piece from the scene and would later become a Roman style standard itself when German soldiers dominated the legions ranks. Standards like this were common Roman monument devices and were used by the Celts as well. It is limited to 25 copies only. Comes aged as in the movie.
